The purpose of study was to explore the relationship between family climate, stress and academic achievement in high school students. Data were collected from one Marathi medium school (50 boys and 50 girls) in Pune city, on Family Climate Scale (Beena Shaha, 1990), Stress Scale for Students (Mishra & Pande, 1987), and Academic Achievement Motivation Test, (Sharma, 1984). The obtained data were subjected to t-test and Pearson product-moment correlation. Results shows that boys and girls are differ on only family climate (t = 1.44, p< .05). The result of product-moment correlations showed that positive family climate found negatively but not significantly correlated with stress (males: r = -.27, p >.05, and female: r =.-24, p >.05), among both boys and girls, but negative family climate found positively and significantly correlated with academic achievement m girls only (r = -.36, p <.05), but there is negative but not significant correlation m boys ( r =.-06, p >.05). Academic achievement found negatively and significantly correlated with stress in boys (r = -.46, p <.01), but in girls there is no significant correlation(girls:-.06,p >.05). Results were discussed in the light of previous studies.Keywords

This study was aimed at analysing the relationship between loneliness, anxiety, and mobile phone addiction among college students in the age group of 18 years to 21 years. The sample of 100 college students using smart phone was collected from various colleges in the city of Pune using incidental sampling method. The Pearson correlation, t-test, and regression analysts was used for analysing the data on SPSS 20. The study revealed that the loneliness and anxiety both were positively related to mobile phone addiction. The regression analysis showed that the loneliness and anxiety both were able to predict the mobile phone addiction.Keywords

The transition to adolescence presents developmental challenges in physical, social, intellectual and psychological arenas. Adolescents typically experience more intense emotions. Life becomes more complex, and more mature coping skills are required to navigate this terrain effectively. To help them 'surf the waves' of emotion changes mindfulness based programs have been incorporated in therapy for adolescents with clinical issues. In Indian context, there is paucity of research dealing with helping non-clinical adolescents with their emotional turmoil. Present research, based upon Ecological momentary assessment, focuses upon understanding and exploring emotional liability in adolescents and observing effect of mindfulness on regulating emotions. Measurement of emotional liability was derived from self report of emotions gathered from 106 participants (57 experimental, 49 control) sampled four times daily over first four and last four days of intervention program. Twenty days long Mindfulness Meditation Intervention (MMI) was adopted from sitting meditation designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn (2012). Results show that positive index of liability and negative index of liability are positively correlated and the correlation decreased significantly after MMI. Gain score analysis reflected that in experimental group negative emotional liability and distraction reduced significantly as compared to control group. Detailed analysis of control group showed that distraction increased while relaxed mood decreased in 20 days long period. While in experimental group boredom, anger and distraction reduced significantly. This shows that mindfulness meditation practice has helped adolescent to reflect upon their emotions, reducing negative emotions and being able to achieve better balance between positive and negative emotions. The finding would be used in development of various emotion regulation programs for adolescent at personal level and educational setup.Keywords

Mindfulness research is progressing with lightening speed covering various areas and involving all the age groups. Present article addresses methodological challenges in mindfulness research. Capturing mindfulness experience, research designs, issue of double blind experiments, inadequate descriptions of interventions, and planning and execution of interventions are special concerns. Attention is given to instruments measuring mindfulness focusing on self report measures, operational definition and validity of instruments in Indian context. Present article is two-fold. In second part, the researcher has focused upon mindfulness in adolescents. Researcher has observed changes in mindfulness among novice adolescent girls after practicing mindfulness meditation intervention. MMI is a guided audio-taped intervention designed by Jon Kabat Zinn (2012) and mindfulness is measured by Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (Brown et af, 2011) designed specifically for adolescents. Surprisingly, it was found that mindfulness has reduced as a result of practicing MMI. Results are discussed in detail along with limitation and guidelines for future research. Research findings highlight need for better assessment techniques for mindfulness especially in Indian context.Keywords

This study was aimed at analysing the relationship between five factors of personality and anxiety among college students. The study also wanted to examine whether the personality factors can predict anxiety. The sample of 441 college students in the age group of 18 to 21years was collected from various colleges in the city of Pune using incidental sampling method. The Pearson correlation, t-test, and regression analysis were used for analysing the data. The study revealed that neuroticism was significantly positively whereas extraversion, openness, and conscientiousness were significantly negatively correlated to anxiety. Agreeableness showed marginally significant negative relationship. Multiple regression analysis revealed that neuroticism significantly positively whereas openness and conscientiousness significantly negatively predicted the anxiety. Extraversion and agreeableness could not predict the anxiety. The study did not reveal significant gender differences in anxiety.Keywords
